The main purpose of the tickling sensation is to alert the victim that sensitive body parts such as feet and armpits are receiving tactile stimulation. The urge to laugh and squirm then prompts the one being tickled to act promptly to defend the body from possible danger.

Tickling constitutes therefore a distraction that makes it difficult to perform other activities, since the body's unconscious reaction is to activate laughter and convulsive movements.

In some TV shows there are tickling trials in which the victim has to perform a normally easy action, such as reading a text, while his feet are subjected to a constant tickling that makes it very difficult to concentrate.

In this old italian TV show (“Non dimenticare lo spazzolino da denti”), a man must read a poetry (about goats!) while a goat licks his bare feet, making him laughs. We can also see a man with tickles with his fingers the contendant’s foot.

A dog begins greedily licking her bare feet, causing her to be tremendously tickled. The woman laughs out loud and thrashes, and begs this animal to stop. Finally the dog walks away, making her breathe a sigh of relief.
